US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a large philanthropic commitment tied to his administration’s new children’s investment scheme, saying Michael Dell and his wife Susan Dell would contribute a total of $6.25 billion to support what the White House is calling Trump Accounts.

In a series of statements, Trump said the Dells would give $250 to 25 million American children as part of the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations. Officials said the money will be deposited directly into individual Trump Accounts once the system becomes operational next year. “In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, Michael Dell and Susan Dell are giving 25 million American children 250 dollars each to save and to invest," Trump said, calling it an unprecedented private contribution to a national savings programme.

Trump Accounts are structured as long-term investment vehicles for children under 18. The administration said families will be able to open accounts in early 2026, and contributions can begin from July 4, 2026. The accounts are designed to allow parents and approved contributors to invest and save on behalf of their children with tax advantages that the White House says were enabled by Trump’s latest tax bill.

The US President said the federal government will also support the rollout through a one-time deposit. “This gift is being made possible by the largest tax cuts in American history. Under that bill, the federal government will also automatically be making a one-time seed contribution of 1,000 dollars into the tax-deferred Trump Accounts for every newborn US citizen," he said.

According to details released by the administration, eligible children born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028 will receive this USD 1,000 deposit. The White House said the pilot phase may also see additional contributions from employers and philanthropic groups, depending on their participation.

Trump said the accounts will officially become available on July 4 next year. The programme is being presented by the administration as a long-term national savings plan intended to promote financial literacy and early investment habits among children.
