HomeMarket NewsUS Stock Market Live Updates: Dow futures fall 270 points as Wall Street faces its worst day in more than a month
Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped below the flatline, while S&P 500 futures dipped around 0.1% and Nasdaq 100 futures fell about 0.2%.
US stock futures edged lower on Friday as traders assessed the impact of the Federal Reserve’s increasingly hawkish signals following Wall Street’s sharpest sell-off in more than a month.
Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped below the flatline, while S&P 500 futures dipped around 0.1% and Nasdaq 100 futures fell about 0.2%.
The muted moves follow a bruising session in which all three major indexes posted their steepest one-day declines in over a month. The Dow gave up record-setting gains after briefly topping 48,000, while the Nasdaq led losses as major tech names slumped.
Sentiment has weakened amid uncertainty over the Fed’s next policy move. Market pricing now reflects roughly a 52% chance of a quarter-point rate cut in December, down from nearly 63% a day earlier and more than 95% a month ago.
A string of Fed officials have struck a more cautious tone this week. Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari said recent figures show “more of the same” economic resilience and indicated he could support holding rates steady, though he added, “I can make a case for either option.”
Investors are also watching whether economic data releases will resume smoothly after the six-week government shutdown. The White House has warned that some of the delayed data could be “permanently impaired,” adding to the uncertainty facing markets.
