Amid a flurry of reports claiming FBI Director Kash Patel was on the verge of being removed, Patel says the truth behind closed doors looked very different. According to him, former President Donald Trump simply laughed at the speculation when the two met privately.

Patel recalls being told: “Trump laughed, and he said: ‘What are they talking about? Kash is doing a great job. Kash, you want to take a photo in front of the Declaration of Independence and tell them how good of a job you’re doing?"

Patel added that he, like all senior officials, ultimately serves at Trump’s pleasure but insisted there was no merit to the rumours. Instead, he argued that the media frenzy around anonymous claims reflects the effectiveness of their work.

“When the media gets together with anonymous sources like they always do… that just means our mission is the most effective it’s ever been," Patel said. “I think we are executing Trump’s mission wildly successfully, in historic fashion."

Who is Kash Patel?

Born in 1980 on New York’s Long Island to Gujarati-Indian parents, Kash Patel grew up with deep ties to his heritage and has previously spoken about a “very deep" connection to India.

He began his legal career in 2005 as a public defender in Miami-Dade County, handling serious criminal cases including violent crime, drug trafficking, and complex financial crimes. Later, he served as a federal public defender for the Southern District of Florida.

From there, he moved up working at the US Department of Justice, and eventually held senior national-security and intelligence-related roles during Trump’s first term. He worked on the staff of the House Intelligence Committee under Devin Nunes and later served at the Security Council and as chief of staff to the acting U.S. Secretary of Defense.

In 2025, Patel was made the ninth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), a culmination of a career that spans public defence, federal prosecution, intelligence and national security work.
