The United States, along with several Arab and Muslim-majority nations, on Friday called for the UN Security Council (UNSC) to quickly adopt a resolution supporting President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza.

Countries backing the measure include Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, and Turkey.

In a joint statement, the nations expressed their support for the resolution “currently under consideration" and also highlighted the need for its “swift adoption."

“The United States, Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, and Türkiye express our joint support for the Security Council Resolution currently under consideration," the statement noted.

Last week, the United States formally began negotiations within the 15-member Security Council on a draft resolution that would build on a ceasefire in the two-year conflict between Israel and Hamas and endorse Trump’s plan.

Officials have described the initiative as a genuine effort to create a “viable path towards peace and stability, not only between Israelis and Palestinians, but for the entire region."

According to a draft seen by AFP, the resolution “welcomes the establishment of the Board of Peace," a transitional governing body for Gaza that Trump would theoretically chair, with a mandate extending until the end of 2027.

The plan also authorises member states to form a “temporary Stabilization Force (ISF)" to work alongside Israel, Egypt, and newly trained Palestinian police to secure border areas and help demilitarise the Gaza Strip. Notably, the latest draft also mentions a potential future Palestinian state, which was absent in previous versions.

The joint call for swift adoption comes amid competing proposals. Russia has circulated its own draft resolution, which does not authorise the creation of a Board of Peace or the immediate deployment of an international force.

While the Russian draft welcomes “the initiative that led to the ceasefire," it does not mention Trump and instead asks the UN Secretary-General to explore options for implementing the plan and report on the potential deployment of a stabilisation force in Gaza.
