Indian ambassador to China PK Rawat on Sunday inaugurated the new chancery premises of the Indian consulate in China’s Shanghai on Sunday.
The Consulate said that the modern, expanded facility—located at the heart of Shanghai’s consular district is designed to strengthen engagement, expand outreach, and enhance service delivery for the growing Indian community and partners across eastern China.
It said that the development is a moment of “New Beginnings, New Horizons" in India–China relations.

It further said that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas.
The Consulate further said that the event drew an impressive gathering, with Consuls General from 30 countries, over 500 members of the Indian diaspora, and numerous friends of India.
The event also spotlighted one of India’s rising commercial success stories—Indian coffee. A curated coffee-tasting session introduced guests to India’s distinguished coffee origins, celebrated for their rich aroma and growing presence across China’s fast-expanding specialty coffee market.

India’s cultural soft power was on full display through colourful performances by young Indian students, singers, dancers, and artists, reflecting the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
Earlier in October, India announced to resume direct flights to China after a long pause brought on not just by the pandemic but also by heightened tensions linked to the eastern Ladakh border situation.
After the ice-breaker meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and China’s President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced the resumption of direct flights.
Following the diplomatic breakthroughs, IndiGo restarted its Kolkata–Guangzhou flights on October 26 and added a Delhi–Guangzhou service on November 10. China Eastern Airlines also launched direct Delhi–Shanghai flights on November 9.
