External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday met with his Canadian counterpart, Anita Anand, at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niagara, Canada. The two ministers reviewed the ongoing law-enforcement dialogue between their countries and discussed progress on the Canada-India Joint Roadmap.

In a statement released by Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was noted that the roadmap sets out a plan to strengthen cooperation in key areas, including energy, trade, and people-to-people ties.

During their discussion, the Canadian minister also conveyed her “deepest condolences" to Jaishankar for the lives lost in the recent blast in New Delhi, which claimed 12 lives. She reaffirmed that Canada stands with the people of India during this tragic time.

“Minister Anand expressed her deepest condolences to Minister Jaishankar for those who were killed in the explosion in New Delhi, India, yesterday and reiterated that Canada stands with the people of India during this tragic time," the statement said.

Additionally, Anand highlighted Canada’s appreciation for India’s active participation in this year’s G7 discussions. “Minister Anand reiterated Canada’s appreciation of India’s participation in G7 discussions this year, recognizing that as the world’s fourth largest economy and with a relationship built on more than 75 years of diplomatic relations, India is an important partner for Canada," it added.

Jaishankar is in Canada from November 11 to 13 to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with Outreach Partners, at the invitation of Canada’s Foreign Minister.

The G7 gathering brings together foreign ministers from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union, along with outreach nations including India, Australia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, and Ukraine.
